Event Details:
"October Mourning" by Leslea Newman, directed by Carin Silkaitis
On October 6, 1998 Matthew Shepard, a twenty-one-year-old gay college student, was lured away from a Wyoming bar, severely beaten, tied to a remote fence, and left to die. "October Mourning, A Song for Matthew Shepard" -- novel written in verse -- is author Leslea Newman's response to the events of that day. North Central theatre professor/director Carin Silkaitis collaborates with students to adapt "October Mourning" for the stage, with original music composed by voice teacher/accompanist Jermaine Hill. More than 16 years after Shepard's death, this production invites its audience to consider the work still to be done to make each of our own communities safer--and more just and joyful--for people who identify as LGBTQIA. Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm as well as Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 pm and Sunday at 6:00 pm.
