Forum on Morocco After the Arab Spring II
As part of a series on "Globalization: A Contested Concept," North Central College's Office of International Programs presents "Forum on Morocco After the Arab Spring II, Women and State Religious Politics in Morocco: New Roles, New Paradigms," from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 7, in Smith Hall of Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. Visiting lecturer Meriem El Haitami will discuss the issue of state-sponsored Islamic feminism in Morocco, explaining its emergence shaped by the convergence of post-Arab Spring politics, the state's counter-radicalization strategy and liberal feminist efforts. These questions will be posed and addressed by Riad Ismat, Syria's former ambassador to Pakistan and minister of culture, now visiting Scholar-in-Residence at North Central College.
