Cabaret: Lucia Spina
A proud graduate of North Central College, Lucia Spina grew up in Wheaton and has gone on to become one of New York's rising theater and cabaret artists. She has appeared nearly everywhere in New York City from The Laurie Beechman Theater to Joe's Pub and Town Hall. Most often you can find her at 54 Below, New York's hottest cabaret spot, singing the songs of such greats as Stephen Sondheim (regular cast member of the multiple award-winning series "Sondheim Unplugged"), Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Schwartz and Barbra Streisand. Spina also has directed for 54 Below, most notably in her production of "54 Sings 1776," which was named one of 2014's Best Cabaret Shows by BroadwayWorld.com and where she also sang the role of Abigail Adams. In 2015 she received the honor of best female vocalist for BroadwayWorld's cabaret awards. Spina's Broadway credits include "Kinky Boots" (original cast), "Legally Blonde" (Enid), "Les Miserables," "South Pacific" and "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" (Rona Lisa Peretti). She also has been seen Off-Broadway in the original casts of Miller & Tysen's "Fugitive Songs," as well as "Silence! The Musical" (Catherine & Senator Martin) and can be heard on the original cast album. She has appeared with Patti LuPone, Michael Cerveris and Audra McDonald in Stephen Sondheim's "Sunday In The Park With George" (Nurse/Harriett) and "Anyone Can Whistle" (Osgood), directed by Lonny Price with musical direction by Paul Gemignani at The Ravinia Festival in Highland Park. Other local regional theater credits include Rona in the Chicago production of "Spelling Bee" (Drury Lane Water Tower Place), Vicki in "The Full Monty" (Drury Lane Water Tower Place), Rita La Porta in "Lucky Stiff" (Drury Lane Oakbrook), Long Wharf Theater, Barrington Stage Company, Milwaukee Repertory Theater and Centerstage (Baltimore). She has been seen in featured roles on "Law & Order: SVU" and "Black Box" and was the voice of Ore-Ida potatoes for nearly four years. You can also hear her on Disney's "Frozen" soundtrack and film.
