Event Details:
Guest Artist Nina Dante, soprano and guests
Blurb The Dante+Chin Duo presents SIX STORIES, a performance of musical works for the voice and flute paired with mystical stories and poems. The cold worlds of Bethany Younge’s Her disappearance and Stratis Minakakis’ Cassandra Fragments tell the story of the Cassandra myth from opposing perspectives. The lush landscapes of Juan Campoverde’s Corpus Delicti and a world premiere by Iván Sparrow invite the listener to inhabit sacred musical space, telling the story of all-consuming love for humanity and the world. Nina Dante’s For the other side and a Dante+Chin Duo composition, Incantation over the bones, tell the story of humanity’s elemental interconnection with the natural world. Soprano/vocalist Nina Dante is a soloist, chamber musician, improviser and composer based in New York City. Musical experimentation and the continual discovery of the voice’s technical ability and emotive power are the inspiring forces behind her work. Hailed for her “amazing performance of vocal versatility by a uniquely gifted young artist” (Chicago Classical Review), Dante has performed at Resonant Bodies Festival, BAM, Lampo, Issue Project Room, Roulette, the Kitchen, National Sawdust, the University of Chicago’s Contempo, Performa, Indexical, Visiones Sonoras, Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporaneo, the Experimental Sound Studio, New Music Miami, the Latino Music Festival, the Frequency Festival, Festival Interfaz, the Poetry Foundation, and the Renaissance Society, among others. Her performances have been hailed as “an amazing performance of vocal versatility by a uniquely gifted young artist” (Chicago Classical Review) on festivals and concert series including Resonant Bodies, BAM, Lampo, the Kitchen, Contempo, Performa, Indexical, Visiones Sonoras, the Festival Internacional Chihuahua, Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporaneo, the Experimental Sound Studio, New Music Miami, the Latino Music Festival, the Frequency Festival, the Ear Taxi Festival, Festival Interfaz, the Goethe Institut, the Renaissance Society of Chicago, and National Sawdust.
